I absolutely love painting large scale, I feel a certain freedom and space to be a little more expressive. I can also use a range of so many colors to represent just one. Like to achieve this red for instance, I used magenta, orange, yellow, violet and even green!
I have never ever dared to paint on a large scale, let alone in oil paint. This is my first endeavor and I am loving it although it is scary because I don’t have proper fine art training. I am trying to learn from observation, I specially love to stare at paintings by Jenny Saville, Rembrandt, Goya, Christian Schoeler, and John Currin among others. This painting is inspired on a black and white photo by Paolo Roversi, so the colors are an interpretation.

It gives me great pleasure to share my first Vogue cover and 11 additional illustrations! It is a special Beauty edition in collaboration with Shiseido celebrating this brand’s 140th anniversary. I am specially proud as I have not seen another illustrated cover for Vogue since the 1940′s, correct me if I am wrong. I certainly hope that illustrated covers become an alternative to photography.

I just came across this old polaroid that was taken when I was working in the Alexander McQueen studio on this hand painted helmet inspired on the Japanese painting “The Great Wave” by Hokusai and chinese tattoos.
This was one of the showpieces for the Spring Summer 2005 collection…

It was a fun experience because they opened the shop a little earlier so that I may take some pictures with my work. For a dreamy moment I felt as if the space was mine.

My most recent exhibition was based on some of my favorite fashion photographs and models.
I did a collection of 11 paintings using watercolor, ink and gouache.
We were celebrating Metal Magazine‘s 5th anniversary. It was hosted by my good friends Priscilla and Andrea Franco. The bubbly was a courtesy of Freixenet. I was lucky to have several friends supporting and participating in the event. There was a special Prada display and the beautiful light installation by Love Bailey and Tim Sujlian. AJ English was in charge of the kick ass music. It was a dream!
